Imbalance is a thrash metal band located in Oslo, Norway, determined to bring thrash metal one step further. With strong roots in the thrash metal scene with elements of death and black metal mixed in for the brutality and technical finesse.

Combining their individual attitudes and approach to music with a healthy contempt towards human societies and politics, they aim at create metal in its pure form without being predictable. Still staying away from exotic or disturbing elements - Imbalance is about the energetic essence that is Metal!

After more than fourteen years in the Norwegian underground, Imbalance finally released their debut album Period Three Implies Chaos to raving critiques in March 2010. The release was immediately followed by their first European tour supporting none other than the legendary Master.

In the spring of 2011 they commenced the Chaos & Apokalypse Tour with friends Bulletsize from Sweden and Atius from Denmark. Another 10 dates throughout Europe with chaos and mayhem Imbalance style. Both tours was well received by the audiences and has further improved the bands live appearance.

History

Imbalance first saw the light of day in the early days of 1996, then under the name of Frost. Their first demo Contemplating Upon A Change in the World was unleashed upon the world as a professionally printed MCD in the spring of 1997.

The disc received favourable critiques in a number of zines throughout the world, and the band appeared in several interviews the coming year or so. After another demo – 1998s Red Moon – this time released on Cassette just to do things a bit backwards, things went a bit downhill for a while.

The lineup that had been stable until then with founding members Harald, Lasse, Anders and Vidar split up. Anders was replaced by Thorstein (now Chton) for a short while before the rest of the band relocated from Trondheim to Oslo. Vidar and Thorstein stayed behind in Trondheim, and Anders joined back in. However a drummer was missing, and several came and went as the seasons passed.

It was not until 2003 when Welle showed up at rehearsals that things started picking up again. By this time Lasse had left the band, and Anders, Harald and the trusty old Alesis SR-16 had been writing some songs in the meantime. With Welle behind the sticks, the finishing touches on the new material quickly came into place, and the band started preparing for a proper recording session again. In january 2004 they went into Skansen lydstudio, and with the help of DIP on session guitars recorded what was to become their first EP under the name of Imbalance. Burial of Consciousness was released later that spring, and got the band another set of cheering reviews and landed a spot at Motstøyfestivalen in Notodden in 2005, and the Inferno Metal Festival in 2006, as well as a few gigs around Norway. DIP never intended on becoming a full time member of Imbalance, so in mid 2004 we got the additional talent of Thormodr into the band. New songs were already underway, and the next EP – Bestial by Nature – was recorded in our own studio facilities Creative Violence Studios in the spring of 2006 – just in time for our appearance at the Inferno Metal Festival that year! The Inferno Festival was a big hit for the band, with follow-up reviews in the mainstream Metal-press around the world! The demo was received well, and more gigs were booked mostly around Norway.

The coming year brought forth a mini-tour in Norway with Keep of Kalessin and Max Midsun, as well as our first european gig at The Night of the Sick festival in Groningen, Netherlands with Goddess of Desire, Scornage and Chainsaw. Soon however another blow would strike when Anders decided to leave the band due to health reasons and a difference in priorities. He has currently not been replaced. The time that came would be turbulent in other ways as well. The band was kicked out of their rehearsal facilities at Helsfyr to much celebration and rejoicing among the factory workers in the rest of the building. While trying out several facilities in the months to come, nothing permanent showed up. The band continued to write songs however, and even managed to record a preproduction to a couple of songs for their upoming album to be able to present something at the Inferno Festival of 2008. Directly after the festival was over they settled into the Pure Music Production studio facilities to start recording their debut album. It should take another one and a half year however before the album was finally finished and could be unleashed upon the world.

In March 2010 Period Three Implies Chaos saw the light of day, released on our own label Calculated Imperfection and recorded in part at Pure Music, Creative Violence and Lionheart studios. Directly after the release the band did one warm-up gig in Norway with Susperia and then left for their first ever European tour with metal legends Master!
